Koenigsegg to beat Porsche 918 Spyder’s Nurburgring record image

Koenigsegg is looking to beat the official time of the Porsche 918 Spyder on the Nurburgring and to steal the crown from the German hybrid supercar.

From the three hottest models money can buy these days, the Ferrari LaFerrari, the Porsche 918 Spyder and the McLaren P1, the German vehicle was the only one to post a Nurburgring lap time of 6:57s, as McLaren said that their ride did it in less than 7 minutes and Ferrari is still keeping it a secret. The Porsche 918 Spyder became the fastest production supercar to lap the “Green Hell” but its crown might be taken away soon.

“When we look at the sector times, we’re already on course for a record. I hate the need to do it, but this is one of the ways you prove yourself in this part of the market”, said Christian von Koenigsegg, the company’s founder, to Car and Driver.

The model which is expected to become the new Nurburgring king is the impressive One:1. This has been introduced back in March, in Geneva, and it packs a 5.0 liter V8 engine, with 1,341 HP (1,000 kW) ad 1,371 Nm (1,011 lb-ft) of torque, available at 6,000 rpm. The supercar needs just 20 seconds to reach 400 km/h from a standstill and top speed is 450 km/h (280 mph).
