Heikki Kovalainen finished off this weeks four days of testing at Jerez, on top of the field on yet another very hot day at the Spanish circuit. Kovalainen’s best lap of 1m18.385s was 0.4s clear of the next fastest driver, Toro Rosso’s Sebastien Bourdais.
Kovalainen continued to test McLaren’s new nose winglet, which the team has introduced at this test. Bourdais’ fastest lap was set while he was testing 2009-spec slick Bridgestone tyres.
David Coulthard finished the day third for Red Bull ahead of Renault tester Romain Grosjean and Felipe Massa ending up fifth in his Ferrari. Massa was running a new shark-fin engine cover for the team for the first time in the afternoon.
Nakajima finished sixth for Williams ahead of Heidfeld, whose BMW stopped on track during the day. Sutil, Button and Toyota tester Koabayshi rounded off the rest of the field with the Japanese driver causing a red flag when he went off track, and later when his Toyota ground to a halt.
