The Honda Civic has been keeping the headlines recently – with the hatchback and Type R coming for the first time to America – but even regular gearheads have lots to look forward to.
This is because the Japanese automaker has introduced at the Los Angeles Auto Show the Civic Si in prototype form – with the turbo coupe and sedan coming to dealerships in 2017. The tenth generation Civic will be blessed with an Si version – previewed by the prototype seen in LA. We don’t expect changes from the coupe visitors can see during the event, which should arrive complete with the dynamic demeanor for the front end 19-inch wheels, aero kit, center exhaust, and traditional rear wing. The interior also looks ready to hit the assembly line with its Si-specific sport front seats, though we don’t know what to say about those red HFP accessory floor mats.
The Si will be reserved to the coupe and sedan body styles because the hatchback has the Type R. There aren’t any official performance figures yet, the automaker only saying the Civic Si makes use of the 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-four linked to a six-speed manual transmission – though we should expect it to become the “fastest, most powerful Si yet.” “This will be, hands down, the fastest, best-handling Si we’ve ever offered to our customers,” says Jeff Conrad, Honda’s senior vice president and general manager.
