The Japanese automaker continues to enhance its well known Kodo design language with the arrival of the refreshed Mazda CX-5 crossover in front of the worldwide audience of the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The introduction at the LA Auto Show of the facelifted 2017 CX-5 is still rather thin on actual details but we do know from the start the company is also allowing customers to select a new color named Soul Red Crystal which encompasses three layers of paint for a deep crimson shade. The refreshed model will first be sold at home in Japan starting next February and then will reach the rest of its intended markets during 2017. The CX-5 design enhancements are in line with what we’ve seen on the new generation CX-9 – the blunt nose now has a larger grille with arched and connected headlights. The lower intake is narrow and stretches to connect with the running lights – while the profile is almost the same save for added chrome tidbits and at the back we noticed the slightly modified taillights and the new hatch.
Mazda has decided to seriously tweak the interior though, with an all-new layout for the center stack encompassing the infotainment system. The HVAC vents have been moved and we also noticed the new additional display for warning messages and the seat heater settings. The powertrain range continues as before – the US-spec model has the 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G four-cylinder gasoline versions, while other markets also get the Skyactiv-D diesel 2.2-liter four-cylinder. The drivetrain upgrades include the Mazda G-Vectoring Control that will enable sharper steering.
