The surprising Honda Civic Concept that made a splashing premiere during the 2015 New York Auto Show back in April will have a diligent successor in the form of the production series Civic Coupe that is scheduled to appear next week during the Los Angeles Auto Show.
Honda has a lot rooting on the new generation Civic, which has eschewed regional form and is going global – with the US now receiving even the European-flavored hatchback variant next to the traditional sedan and Coupe forms. But the latter is the hottest subject now because it is scheduled to have its worldwide introduction next week during the LA Auto Show just as Honda is rolling the 2016 Civic across US showrooms. The Civic Coupe is naturally not the only novelty from the Japanese automaker, which at home during the Tokyo Motor Show also presented their upcoming Clarity next generation fuel cell vehicle that is set to compete against the Toyota Mirai.
We already know how the Coupe will look like – since the April appearance of the Concept was a thinly disguised production-ready model, with the automaker declaring openly it has decided to eschew affordability as a target and deliver a worthy product that could stand up against models from the luxury class, such as the Audi A3. According to Honda, compared to the current sedan the Coupe body “will showcase even sportier lines, with an intimate, high-tech interior and engaging powertrain options.” The company also said that Civic fans should expect during the next year and a half a flurry of “high-performance Si models, a 5-door hatchback and the first-ever Civic Type-R model for the U.S. market, comprising the most diverse and innovative lineup in Civic’s 43-year history.”
