After originally being just a rumor in the automotive media and then teased by Jaguar for making its worldwide debut in the nearby future, the XKR-S Convertible is finally here and the automaker has presented it to the public at this edition of the Los Angeles Auto Show.
According to Jaguar, the XKR-S Convertible is powered by a large 5.0 liter V8 engine which is generating a total output of 542 horsepower and has a peak torque of 680 Nm (501 lb-ft), mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Jaguar says that the 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) acceleration time takes just 4.2 seconds (0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds) and the top speed is 186 mph or 300 km/h.
“Taking the track-oriented ethos of the XKR-S Coupe and applying it to a convertible is very exciting. There is a real spirit and thrill to driving with the roof down in a car capable of these speeds that is going to be exaggerated to create a very dramatic and special experience”, said the Director of Design within Jaguar Cars, Ian Callum.
Jaguar says that the new soft-top roof on the XKR-S Convertible opens and stows in 18 seconds and if somehow the rain suddenly starts and your roof is down, don’t worry because the interior is carbon-leather trimmed and the multifunction three-spoke steering wheel is wrapped in leather. An interesting feature which can be found on the new XKR-S Convertible is the Adaptive Dynamics for the suspension which will provide a safer and more exciting handling for the driver.
Jaguar didn’t announce yet whether the brand new XKR-S Convertible will be offered in more trim levels but according to the car manufacturer, the model will be priced at 103.000 GBP in the United Kingdom, while the same vehicle will cost 138.000 USD in the United States.
