At the 2011 LA Auto Show, Mercedes Benz unveiled two extremely powerful vehicles – the new 2012 ML 63 AMG Suv and the C63 AMG Black Series.
So, if the world really needs a 518-horsepower (or even 550 hp) SUV Mercedes-Benz is ready to take orders for the 2012 ML63 AMG that goes on sale in the United States in February. The new ML AMG comes clean and relatively understated SUV, despite its AMG heritage.
It also comes with a new super techy engine: the AMG 5.5-litre V8 bi-turbo engine features spray-guided direct petrol injection with piezo injectors, ECO start/stop system, an all-aluminum crankcase, four valves per cylinder with camshaft adjustment, air-water charge air cooling and generator management, for example.
The point here is that this new engine provides 518-horsepower — an increase of 15 horsepower over the 2011 model, while it burns less fuel.
The new AMG SUV accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and has a top speed at 155 mph. There also is an AMG Performance Package available that shaves off one-tenth of a second off the zero-to-60 mph time, pushes the top speed to 174 mph, and increases engine power to 550 horsepower while fuel efficiency remains the same.
The ML63 AMG is joined at the Mercedes display by some other exotic Mercedes models being shown in North America for the first time.
The C63 AMG Black Series – is powered by the “classic” 6.3 liter naturally aspirated V8 engine which is generating a total output of 517 horsepower at 6.800 rpm and has a peak torque of 457 lb-ft available at 5.000 rpm.
An AMG rear-axle differential lock is also added to the Black Series model. Braking is managed by 390mm discs and six-piston calipers at the front, and 360mm discs and four-piston calipers at the rear.
On the outside, the Black gets a menacing body kit and 19-inch 10-spoke AMG alloy wheels, both of which will ensure people know you haven’t just bought the run-of-the-mill C 63.
