Lamborghini is planning to put its Urus concept into production in 2017 when the luxurious crossover will ride on the same platform as the Bentley SUV, the Porsche Cayenne, the Audi Q7 or the VW Touareg.
After being officially presented to the public in a world debut at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show last month, the Lamborghini Urus concept is once again entering our news, this time with the “help” of the company’s R&D director, Maurizio Reggiani, who has announced that the crossover will enter production in 2017.
“We envisage a start of production no sooner than early 2017”, as Maurizio Reggiani told Automotive News.
The Lamborghini official also said that the production version of the Lamborghini Urus concept will ride on the same platform as the Bentley EXP 9 F production, the Volkswagen Touareg, the Porsche Cayenne or the Audi Q7, which will be made out of steel, and it will help the crossover’s total weight, which will be around 4,400 lbs (1,996 kg).
The Lamborghini Urus is expected to hit the market with the new Bentley 6.0 liter W12 engine, or with the smaller 4.0 liter V8, and its top sped will be electronically limited to 180 mph. At the time of its launch, the production version of the Lamborghini Urus concept will have a starting price of approximately 200,000 USD.
