Land Rover confirmed at the Paris auto show that the next new Land Rover Defender will arrive in the US.
This is amazing news taking into consideration that the last Land Rover imported by North America was the 1977 model year. Jaguar and Land Rover are currently on a multi-billion-dollar project that began with the 2011 Jaguar XJ and the 2012 Range Rover Evoque. Now it continues with the 2013 Land Rover Range Rover and the upcoming 2014 Jaguar F-Type convertible sports car. The Defender will be part of Land Rover’s collection of new products, under its ownership by Tata Motors.
For the first time, “we know what we’re going to be doing over the next five, six, seven years,” says design director Gerry McGovern.
If we are to consider the success of the 2012 Range Rover Evoque compact crossover and the coming 2013 Range Rover, it is clear that the automaker focuses more on the premium end of the lineup. But the Land Rover has big plans for the following years, as it prepares to replace and re-engineer its models, focusing on the Range Rover, The Discovery and the Defender. Besides the Defender, anonymous sources said that the automaker also plans a replacement for the Range Rover Sport.
