The Land Rover manufacturer has decided to introduce a new Euro5 diesel engine for the current Defender generation, replacing the 2.4 liter version.
According to the auto maker, the current Defender generation will get a new 2.2 diesel engine, replacing the old 2.4 unit, and generating 120 horsepower (the same as the 2.4 liter) and 361 Nm of torque. The 2.2 liter powered Defender will have a top speed of 145 km/h, compared to the old 132 km/h.
“With the introduction of the new 2.2 liter diesel engine and two optional packages, the Defender is offering a larger choice to its customers”, said Land Rover 4×4 specialized director John Edwards.
After assuring that the current generation of the Defender will meet the Euro5 standards, the manufacturer has announced that the new Defender will enter production in 2015.
Land Rover will also be present at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show with a new Defender Concept.
