David Brown Automotive has decided to refresh its spectacular James Bondish Speedback GT and the latest three examples “happen” to be finished in the same colors as Great Britain’s flag.
The Coventry-based company is fighting a fight to revive the dying art of coachbuilding contemporary cars – the Speedback GT is actually a Jaguar XKR that gets crafted into something that brings fond memories of the iconic Aston Martin DB5, James Bond’s car of choice on so many occasions. The XKR base car is stripped down to the running gear and frame – afterwards the DBA experts hand craft the vehicle using 142 aluminum panels, hand-made using traditional coachbuilding techniques. The one thing that remains the same is the windshield frame – everything else is modified, even the roof gets a top-hinged tailgate while the bottom half the tailgate folds down to create a seat.
Each car is personally tailored by the future owner and the latest three examples so happens they were painted Ruby Tuesday, Blue Moon, and White Knight. By the way, the paintwork alone needs eight weeks to be finished. The interior is again open to interpretation to the owner’s wishes. The powertrain remains the same though – 5.0-liter, supercharged V8 motor delivering 510 horsepower (380 kilowatts) and 461 pound-feet (625 Newton meters) of torque.
