Thanks to some leaked patent renderings, we now have the complete preview of the upcoming production series model linked to the Suzuki iM-4 concept.
The model in question has been introduced at the latest Geneva Motor Show in March and depicts a small crossover with minimalist design cues and increased ground clearance to be able to approach rougher than usual terrains. It had prototype cues – such as the “sunglass-like” front grille that links to the LED headlights, while the back was more restrained and tied into other Suzuki models such as the Fronte Coupe and first Crevo. Of course, the production ready version has divested all those concept cues, including the 18-inch wheels, blacked out A and B pillars and the set of full LED headlights. The side mirrors also have a more conventional shape and house the integrated turning lights.
Also, according to the current information available, the concept’s mild hybrid system mating the 1.2-liter DUALJET engine to an integrated starter generator and a lithium-ion battery pack will also be gone, though the conventional engine unit in aspirated form coming from the Swift will be retained. The model in its final production guise could be in showrooms in late 2016 and will become a competitor to models such as the Fiat Panda. It will also have common internals with the Baleno set to make its official debut during the 2015 IAA Frankfurt motor show, the small crossover would also get the 1.0-liter 3-cylinder turbo petrol unit and could also have an all-wheel drive system as an optional extra.
