The all-new generation of the X3 SUV is not due until a few hours more today in an official introductory event, but the cat is already out of the back – either intentional or not.
It’s a hard world for the automaker and online leakesters, because no one really knows who’s using who – either way, we are constantly getting sneak peaks of new models ahead of their intended release. As far as the new X3 was concerned, the rumor mill was spot on, because the compact crossover does feature the X3 M40i version from the very beginning, meaning it will go head on against the GLC 43 and Audi SQ5 with its 360 HP and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of twist. The 8-speed auto and the xDrive system are both standard, naturally, and according to the leak it will sprint to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds – with its 21-inch wheels and aero body kit.
BMW Hong Kong apparently thinks we are also interested in the 8.4 l/100km average or the 193 grams of CO2, or the other powerplants available – xDrive20d and xDrive30d models for Europe, with traditional 2.0-liter and 3.0-liter single-turbo diesels, from the 5 Series. Of course, for the United States and China, xDrive20i and xDrive30i versions are being offered from the get go. The G01 SUV is coming with a design inspired by the X1 and possibly also enhanced for the upcoming new X5, with standard LED technology for the head and taillights.
