The French automaker is well known and loved by its fans for the nonconformist spirit it once adopted. While the years had washed away that strong feeling – it’s now coming back with a “vengeance”.
Back in the day models such as the Mehari, 2CV or later on the DS proved the Citroen marquee was not for everyone – and was entirely OK. In the 2000s the free spirit had succumbed to the capitalist way and Citroen almost lost its identity. But the near-death experience of the group has convinced the Citroen managers that needs to change. So – onwards with more appealing and quirky designs such as the C4 Picasso or the C4 Cactus. The latter – a no frills crossover with a mind of its own – proved so successful the smaller C3 hatchback has taken note and features an inspired exterior design. We don’t have yet the official set of pictures from the automaker but this leak looks entirely legit ahead of the reveal programmed later on during the day. The front fascia seems to have been directly taken from the C4 Cactus, albeit with the needed modifications to accommodate the smaller size. We also get to see the Air Bumps on the doors, along with other crossover elements such as the plastic body cladding, contrasting roof or the tailgate-mounted spoiler.
We’re still waiting on the exact details but it appears the subcompact hatch will be 13.09 feet (3.99) meters long, 12.30 feet (1.75 meters) wide, and 4.82 feet (1.47 meters) tall with a wheelbase of 8.33 feet (2.54 meters). The C3 is also going to boast a reported cargo capacity of up to 10.6 cubic feet (300 liters). Engines haven’t been confirmed either but we’re expecting a plethora of known powertrains – such as the 1.2-liter three-cylinder with 82 horsepower and 110 hp. The Diesel side should have the 1.6-liter BlueHDi delivering 5 hp, 99 hp, and 120 hp.
