According to the latest reports flying around the Australian media’s rumor mill, the soon to arrive 2016 Ford Falcon XR Sprint special edition has had its full technical specifications leaked out in the open.
Ford Australia is looking to deliver the very last Falcon XR with a turbocharged inline-six 4.0-liter engine slapped under the hood and producing 436 horsepower (325 kilowatts) and 425 pound-feet (576 Newton meters) of torque. The power plant will be mated to an automatic gearbox and the starting price will be of AUD 54,990 – which is a pretty major increase of AUD 11,500 over the “standard” XR6 Turbo. Also in toe is an XR8 Sprint version that ups the ante to a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 churning out a spectacular 463 hp (345 kW) and 424 lb-ft (575 Nm). This one will be linked to a six-speed manual gearbox and go for AUD 59,990 or to an automatic transmission from AUD 62,190. The difference from the regular XR8 this time around for the Sprit will only be of an additional AUD 6,500.
Aside from the increased power coming from the motors, the 2016 Ford Falcon XR Sprint also adds the updated FPV RSPEC chassis and would come equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels wearing wider tires and a black hue. Standard brakes include the usually optional (an extra AUD 4,500) six-piston front and four-piston rear gold-painted brake Brembo caliper set. The design tweaks will include new fog light inserts, unique stripes, a black roof, and some “Sprint” badges – complimented on the inside by the bespoke Sprint embroidery. Production should be finished at 1,400 units – with 200 of them reaching New Zealand. This will be Ford’s Australia factory swan song as the unit is scheduled to close its gates in October.
