Finally, the long waited BMW M5 has finally been seen for the first time in production form! The German publication autozeitung unveiled these first images. And as we expected the F10 BMW M5 looks almost the same as the concept vehicle unveiled for the first time at the Shanghai Auto Show this year.
Power comes from BMW’s S63 engine – it has 560PS (552hp) / 680Nm (501tq). Compared to the old M5, the E60, the new F10 M5 has 53 more hp.
Moving to the transmission, a 7 speed DCT gearbox will come as standard, while manual transmission will be offered as an optional ( not official yet – but based on yesterday photos ). Combined with the new-for-the-U.S. Auto Start Stop functionality, BMW claims that emissions have been reduced by 25 percent when compared to the outgoing model’s V10, while developing more power in the process.
2012 BMW M5 F10 Performance:
– 0-100km (0-62mph) in 4.4 seconds (E60 M5 took 4.7 seconds).
– 0-200km (0-124mph)in 13 seconds.
– Active M-differential with torque vectoring: The lateral torque vectoring control transfers the torque from the left wheel to the right wheel, and vice versa, to generate an amount of braking torque on one wheel while generating the same amount of driving torque on the other wheel. Torque transfer is up to 100%.
– M-Drivers-Package will increase top speed from 250km/h to 305km/h (127mph to 189mph) and most probably this new F10 M5 will break 8min lap at Nurburgring.
What you will see in this photos is the production version 2012 M5 in Monte Carlo blue color and is barely changed from the concept version.
The official press release and full set of photos will come early next week, followed by the public debut at the M Festival (next Thursday, June 23).
