The seventh generation Golf is supposed to come out with the official take on the refresh any minute now, but we can jump the gun thanks to the power of Internet leaks.
It’s not the same as in a drain leak, because it doesn’t damage the end user – and we’re not really sure it actually damages the manufacturer either. Anyways, the Golf Mk7 follows the trend and gets some blurry shots out in the open for us to judge ahead of the official announcement. The latest generation Golf hit the market back in 2012 – for many seems to have been older since the generational gap is pretty flimsy – but at least the leaked images show the designers finally earning their paychecks. This is because you won’t be able to mistake the facelift for the older model years with a different front end, new wheels and even some modifications to the back side.
The interior is even more fresh with the “Virtual Cockpit” theme we’ve seen in concepts and packing a new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an Active Info Display system just like the Passat. Under the hood new powertrain should be available – all new 1.5-liter TSI and TDI engines, together with an update for the all-electric e-Golf. The leaks also depict a fresh GTI, but there are no details on that one for now.
