Another day, another Renault Megane RS leak – and this time around we have the change to snoop the engine bay compartment, in a bid to answer the last of the troublesome questions – what heart is at play?
We virtually know almost everything about the Megane RS ahead of the planned introduction in front of the worldwide audience of the Frankfurt Motor Show this September. We’ve seen the exterior design leak in more than one occasion, including patent renders – and we also saw the interior. We know about key technical aspects – we’re getting the Cup chassis again, along with four-wheel steering that has been taken from the warm GT and enhanced for the additional forces involved here. Now the fan debate recently revolved around what powers the new hot hatchback – which is certainly going to have a go at the recent record on the Nurburgring established by the Honda Civic Type R for front wheel-driven cars.
Thanks to a recent leak on Facebook, we now have a proper look at the engine bay, where the two-liter engine of the old generation has been sacrificed on the altar of downsizing, in its place most likely residing a 1.8-liter powerplant, with chances of it being the same one that powers the Alpine A110. The 1.8 TCe Energy is more or less related to the 1.6 TCe seen inside the Clio RS, and for the A110 it has been tuned to develop 249 horsepower and 320 Nm (236 pound-feet) – the Megane RS is expected to up the ante towards 300 hp.
