The impending debut of the all-new fifth generation Seat Ibiza has been spoiled by the Internet, so we can present the subcompact in all its glory in official photos ahead of the actual introduction.
We’re going to get the full blown official treatment soon but because we’re always impatient here’s the summary from the leaked information. The new Ibiza supermini is looking like a subcompact version of the five-door Leon compact hatchback – which is not great for the brand itself in terms of personality, but also bad news for the rest of the competitors – some of them extremely dull. So far we can see pics only with the high-end version, so getting those LED headlights and good looking alloys will cost a dime. The Ibiza is different from the Leon at the back, and this trim level – most likely the FR – is also complete with a double exhaust feature.
According to the leaked specifications, the new Ibiza is wider and the wheelbase has been stretched by 9 centimeters, with a class-leading 355-liter trunk capacity, which is the same as in a Golf 6. As far as we can tell from the interior shots, the infotainment system is also new and sports a medium-sized 8-inch display. Apparently the leaked FR model will be powered by a 1.4 TSI with 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque, while the range will be completed by the entry-level 1.0 TSI packing an Eco version of 95 hp and 5-speed manual or a regular version worthy of 115 hp, 200 Nm and hooked to a six-speed manual or the 7-speed DSG. Apparently the TDI versions will be of 80, 95 and 115 hp.
