The German automaker seems to have a pretty major security issue – we just saw the camouflage-less Teramont SUV and the probable Golf facelift – and now we’re being treated to the next generation CC.
The new generation CC isn’t even supposed to be presented this year just like the other two – instead reserved for a next year introduction. Anyways, inspired by the Sport Coupe Concept GTE from 2015, the CC appears to have done the usual VW deed – strip away all the excitement and glamour for a very conventional evolution of the design. Just like the rumor mill predicted after seeing the model’s spy shots, it appears the CC is going to make a switch – from the regular sedan body layout to a hatchback. The liftback stance would bode well with the four-door coupe silhouette and also allow a higher level of practicality.
When talking about the VW models nobody could accuse them of being exciting, but the CC always had a special place in the roster and the second generation appears to secure that look all over again. It’s cooked on the same MQB architecture as its Passat sedan sibling and we can bet the majority of powertrains will also be shared. The new generation is not expected until the Geneva Motor Show in March 2017 or even later on at Frankfurt, and rumors even point to a moniker change in a bid to reposition and reinvent the model.
