Toyota’s luxury brand Lexus is planning to develop a new small city car which will be a direct competitor to models like the Audi A1 or MINI Cooper.
The Japanese based automaker Lexus didn’t announce anything official just yet but according to paultan.org, an automotive website from Malaysia, the new model will be named the AS150 and it will hit the market with Lexus badges on its body. The Lexus AS150 will be smaller than the CT200h and the vehicle will rival with popular models like the Audi A1, the MINI Cooper, the Alfa Romeo MiTo or the Citroen DS3.
Our source is also saying that the Lexus AS150 is expected to get two powertrain options, the 1.5 liter Hybrid Synergy Drive system used on the Toyota Prius C on the AS150h and a 1.2 liter direct injection turbocharged engine for the AS150t F Sport model. The Lexus AS150 will slot just below the CT200h, which is based on the Prius, and the fact that the model will use technologies from the Prius C is a real possibility. Unfortunately we don’t have any more details on the new Lexus AS150 but the company might pull a surprise on us and reveal it at the Paris Motor Show in September.
