Lexus expects the IS 300h hybrid to make up more than 80 percent of European sales

Lexus said at the Detroit auto show that the IS 300h hybrid model is expected to make up more than 80 percent of IS sales in Europe.

The IS 300h uses a variation of the hybrid system from the Toyota Camry and Avalon Hybrids and it includes a 2.5-liter Atkinson cycle gas engine with direct injection and an electric motor. Although detailed specifications have not been released, Lexus said that total system output is 217 horsepower.

With the new IS 300h, Lexus is targeting CO2 emissions of under 100 grams/km, thus allowing buyers to get significant tax benefits. The IS 300h will also be available with the F Sport package, that includes interior and exterior styling upgrades such as the larger lower front grille.

Inside, the F Sport package includes sport seats with a special foaming method that leaves no gaps between the upholstery and the filling. Power steering and suspension are also tweaked.

The IS 300h won’t be offered in the U.S., at least for now. The Japanese luxury automaker sells there hybrids including the CT 200h, ES 300h, GS 450h, RX 450h and LS 600h L.
