Jaguar is planning to introduce a lighter version of the F-Type which is believed to get the same powertrain from the C-X75 Concept.
After showing us the F-Type Project 7, during the 2014th edition of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which will be put into a limited production, the British based automaker Jaguar is currently getting ready to develop a lighter version of the F-Type. The model in question hasn’t been officially confirmed but it has been hinted by a company’s director from the JLR SVO (Special Vehicle Operations) division.
“The Project 7 is 80kg lighter, but there are smaller engines that start from a lower point. Will the Project 7 be the lightest ever? I’m not sure, but we haven’t invented it yet”, said Paul Newson, the director of JLR SVO, to Auto Express.
A lighter version of the Jaguar F-Type equipped with a smaller engine doesn’t necessarily mean an entry-level variant because if it will indeed adopt the unit from the C-X75, than it will offer quite a lot of horsepower. The model in question is said to get the 1.6 liter unit which is actually good for 500 HP. This can rev up to an impressive 10,000 rpm and it will become a replacement for the large 5.0 liter V8, in the future. More details on the lighter F-Type are limited for the moment.
