Lincoln has announced that it will offer Sirius Satellite Radio as standard equipment on every 2008 model year Lincoln MKZ, MKX, Navigator, Navigator L, and Mark LT. Every new Lincoln equipped with Sirius Satellite Radio will also come with six months of programming from Sirius, allowing the buyer to give the service a trial run free of cost.
Lincoln’s corporate parent, Ford, currently offers Sirius Satellite Radio in 22 of its vehicles as a factory-installed option and to date, has sold almost 600,000 of the units. Ford expects to have sold twice that many by the end of the year.
Lincoln’s offer echoes that made by Mitsubishi for the 2007 model year, as the Japanese automaker is also offering standard Sirius Satellite Radio on every vehicle it sells along with a free six-month free service period.
Mitsubishi’s sales were up 25 percent this January and 22 percent in February. Correlation? We think not, but it surely can’t be hurting when Mitsu salespople are attempting to close the deal.
