One of the main Tube lines serving the Olympic Park – London’s Central Line has failed for the second time in a week on one of the busiest days of the Games.
No services were possible to Stratford on the Central line, causing a huge headache for those trying to get an estimated 200,000 people to the venue on the first of 10 days of track and field events.
Trains were packed with thousands of commuters and Olympic visitors when the service was suspended between Liverpool Street and Leytonstone.
Tube tickets are being accepted on Greater Anglia, First Great Western and bus services.
It comes after the line was suspended on Tuesday morning due to a suspected fire at Leyton.
Update1: Central line to resume service but with delays. Please be patient when travelling – officers and staff are working to ensure safe journeys.
Update2: Signal failure in Bethnal Green forces suspension of the Central line eastbound between Liverpool Street and Leytonstone, TfL confirms – PA
