The British sports car manufacturer has recently introduced the Elise Sport and Elise Sport 220 models that feature additional tweaks and are lighter than the preceding Elise 1.6 and Elise S.
Lotus has last employed the “Sport” designation on the well known Esprit and is now coming back after a major hiatus to the Elise model that has also lost some weight – 10 kg (22 lbs) for a gross weight of 866 kg (1,909 lbs). The same program has been applied to the Elise Sport 220 that can be had with its full 914 kg (2,015 lbs). The gym program has not returned better performance figures but the models now have better fuel economy – which is rather odd considering that we’re talking here about a sportscar. Both models will hit European dealerships in December at a price of 29,900 pounds/39,900 euros and £36,500 / €48,700 (MSRP), respectively.
The Elise Sport will have a 1.6-liter gasoline engine delivering 134 bhp (100 kW) and 118 lb-ft (160 Nm), enough to handle the regular sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.5 seconds on its way to the maximum speed of 127 mph (204 km/h). The update to the Elise Sport 220 will come with a considerable performance jump – to 217 bhp & 184 lb-ft – which is enough to do the jump in 4.6 seconds and top out at 145 mph (233 km/h). Both powerplants will be mated to a purist six-speed manual gearbox. Inside the cabin we can find an optional tartan trim, lightweight sport seats in leather or Alcantara. Exterior looks can be enhanced using silver or black lightweight wheels (16 inch front/ 17 inch back) and to further cut the kilo count by 5 kg (11 lbs) you can have forged wheels.
