The British sports car manufacturer has presented yet another version of its popular Elise model – dubbed the Cup 250 – and coming, as the name implies, with 250 PS.
Lotus has announced the new Elise Cup 250 as their fastest ever Elise model – and the version is here to replace the Elise Cup 220. Future owners will be treated to an aerodynamic styling package and lightweight 16 front and 17 inch back forged alloy wheels. Other lightweighting measures included the refit of lighter components such as a lithium-ion battery and carbon fiber seats. Since Lotus is all about weight saving, fans can go even further by asking the Carbon Aero Pack that will make the switch to the composite material for the front splitter, rear wing, rear diffuser, and side skirts. This further reduces the weight by another 22 pounds and the new Elise Cup 250 will thus tip the scales at just 2,030 lbs (920 kilograms). The interior is also sparse to keep the weight down but we did notice a leather-wrapped steering wheel, Alcantara upholstery, or a polished aluminum gear knob. Optional goodies can come in the form of leather upholstery and a Clarion audio system with Bluetooth and iPod connectivity.
Motivation comes from a supercharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 250 PS (243 hp) and 184 pound-feet of torque. Mated to a six-speed manual gearbox the new Elise version can do the 60 mph (96 km/h) run in 3.9 seconds and then go up to a top speed of 154 mph. Lotus also said the Elise Cupe 250 has posted a hot lap around the Hethel test track of 1 minute and 34 second – which is four seconds quicker than the retiring Elise Cup 220. The new model is scheduled to go on sale in April with pricing from £45,600 in the United Kingdom and €61,100 in Germany.
