You may never hear again about Denmark-based REC Watches, but we can tell you their REC 901 watch has already made it onto our list of automobile memorabilia we want to buy.
This is because the company has a love for finding old cars and recycling salvageable parts – but with a twist. Their four previous watches (Minimalist, Cooper, Mark I, P-51), have all been made from various components taken from the classic Mini Cooper and Ford Mustang. Quite a brilliant idea, we might add… fuse passion for watches with the one for classic iconic cars. Their latest project has hit Kickstarter (we’re putting some money after work is over) to gauge interest for the 901 Automatic, an amazing timepiece.
This is because no 901s will be the same – the metal for the dial and the finish will always be different – and the name references, you guessed it, the original intended name of the famous Porsche 911. Aside from the Fuchs-inspired case and other classic references, the REC 901 is as modern as it gets – movement Miyota 9100, double calf leather strap, as well as SuperLuminova hands and indicators. By the way, they already surpassed their initial figure pledge in less than a week – so we;re figuring this is another winner for them.
