The sedan/truck niche is one that is very dear to Australian drivers down under, and while both them and UK motorists share the love for driving on the other side of the road, we’re pretty surprised to see the 2016 Maloo VXR8.
It would have made a lot more sense if the 2016 Maloo VXR8 retained its usual Holden badge – but now the model is offered in the UK under GM’s Vauxhall brand as well. For a steep price – more on that in a moment – you get the refreshed Maloo complete with a new front end and a ventilated bonnet that has been adorned with pitch-black air vents. The dark treatment continues when talking about the mirrors and the model has also received a set of great-looking 20-inch five-spoke alloy wheels. The novelties continue with a refreshed color lineup that has gained the Slipstream (vibrant blue) and Some Like it Hot (metallic red) hues. The cabin has pretty much remained unchanged and the automaker now offers more standard amenities: modified Driver Interface, an updated infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity and GPS navigation as well as Onyx leather seats.
The 2016 Maloo VXR8 can be had from 54,500 pounds OTR – which is actually a little more affordable than the VXR8 sedan version and for that hefty price tag owners will receive a brand new engine. The LS3 V8 has been axed in favor of the new supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V8 churning out 528 hp (536 PS / 394 kW) and 495 lb-ft (671 Nm) of torque – up no less than 103 hp (105 PS / 77 kW) and 74 lb-ft (101 Nm). This suffices to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.6 seconds and an electronically-governed max speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).
