The compact high-performing sports car has brought BMW close to the fabled Consumer Reports high score, putting it in close proximity to the best rated car – Tesla’s Model S.
The light an compact M235i brought in Bayerische Motoren Werke AG’s best-ever score in the road test reviews from the well-known Consumer Review magazine, allowing it to pass over more costly offerings like Porsche’s 911 or Chevrolet’s iconic US sports car, th Corvette.
According to Consumer Reports, the M235i not only handily beats its BMW 135i predecessor, but also – with the overall score of 98 out of the maximum 100 – puts it next to last year’s reviewed electric performance sedan from Tesla, the Model S, which had a score of 99.
“This really is a totally dual-purpose car,” said Jon Linkov, Consumer Reports deputy cars editor. “This is a car you could drive to work every day of the week without it killing you. And then you could go take it to the track on the weekend. It seems like it has almost a direct lineage,” to old BMWs, Linkov added. “This is just an inspiring, sporty car, plain and simple.”
According to the magazine, the M235i is a welcome come back to the age when BMW was all about “Ultimate Driving Machine” slogan, as cars in recent years have shun away that image, adding comfort and luxury to the top of the list.
