Malaysia: Volkswagen Polo GTI is more expensive image

Volkswagen’s Malaysian division has recently announced a raised price for the Polo GTI in both body styles.

According to the German based automaker, the Volkswagen Polo GTI three-door now costs RM166,888, without insurance and OTR costs, while the five-door version of the hot hatch can now be bought in Malaysia starting from RM169,888, again, without OTR and insurance costs. The previous prices for the three-door and five-door versions of the Volkswagen Polo GTI were 132,888 and 135,888, about RM34,000 cheaper.

Volkswagen says that this is the second time when the Malaysian division has increased the prices for the Polo GTI and the German hot hatch isn’t getting anything extra for the money. Rumors are saying that Volkswagen has increased the price tag for the Polo GTI in order to slot the Polo BlueGT between the Polo TSI and the Polo GTI, but there is no official word on this just yet.

As a quick reminder, the new Volkswagen Polo GTI has been officially presented to the public at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. The hot hatch is getting the company’s 1.4 liter TSI engine, the same one found on the Scirocco, which is developing a total output of 178 horsepower. The fifth generation of the Polo GTI is 7,5% lighter than the previous one and the model is getting 30 HP more, allowing the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds.
