Datuk Sri Haji Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir resigned from his position of Proton managing director.
This news came a day after DRB-Hicom declared it would keep Lotus, Proton’s subsidiary, and confirmed Lotu’s CEO has been suspended. Datuk Sri Haji Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir’s resignation takes effect from July 4th. Proton declared in a statement that Syed Zainal resigned on his own accord and that Azhar Othman, Proton’s chief financial officer, is also leaving beginning July 6th.
The statement did not name a successor to Syed Zainal but said “Following a number of media queries, Proton Holdings Berhad today wishes to confirm the resignation of Datuk Seri Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir as the Group Managing Director of Proton Holdings Berhad, effective July 4, 2012. Proton executive chairman Datuk Sri Haji Mohd Khamil Jamil will continue his leadership role in steering the Company forward.”
Syed Zainal served the company for 6 years, and rumors about him leaving the company have been spread even before the DRB-Hicom takeover. Last month the company announced that Datuk Seri Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh has resigned from his position as director and chairman and that the move was part of a term stipulated in the purchase and sales agreement between DRB-Hicom and Khazanah Nasional Bhd.
