Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the largest passenger carmaker in India, has just introduced officially the new production-ready Ciaz with Indian specifications.
The model is scheduled to hit dealer showrooms sometimes next month and features styling inspired by the appealing Authentics concept introduced during the Auto Shanghai 2013. The concept, which previewed a new C-segment sedan has now made the transition to the production model – the Ciaz. The lines have been toned down but the model seems worthy of its local Honda City adversary, also boasting a rival beating 2,650 mm wheelbase.
The Indian producer, owned by the Japanese automobile and motorcycle maker, ha snow released the first official images and details of the model. The Ciaz is 4490mm long, 1730mm wide and 1485mm tall, with very generous dimensions for its segment.
The car has a dry weight of 1,010 kg (gasoline) or 1,105 kg (diesel engine), sits on 16-inch multi-spoke alloys and has a trunk boosting a 510-liter capacity – so the model is definitely tailored towards family ownership. The equipment on offer is also extensive: automatic climate control, keyless start, touchscreen with navigation, electric trunk release and reversing camera with parking sensors, among others.
Engine choices vary from a 4-cylinder 1.4-liter with 91 bhp (68 kW) and 130 Nm (96 lb-ft) to a Fiat sourced 4-cylinder 1.3-liter diesel that develops 89 bhp (66 kW) and 200 Nm (147 lb-ft) of torque.
