Maserati bringing the Levante SUV to New York, also reveals US pricing details image

The first ever Maserati sport utility vehicle has just had its worldwide premiere in front of the audience at the Geneva Motor Show but the model has already packed its bags and is heading to the US.

That’s because the Italian automaker has decided to stage the North American premiere during next week’s New York International Auto Show – and the company has already decided o announce the sales would be kicking off in the US in April as a 2017 model year. The Levante SUV – which is one of the best alternatives in the crossover segment if you’re looking for something else rather than a premium German SUV (the other being the Land Rovers) – will retail from $72,000 before destination. For that money the owner will receive a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine with Ferrari DNA and delivering 345 horsepower, mated to a standard all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Buyers looking for even more power can select the same V6 engine but tuned to develop 424 hp when treated to the Levante S. For now the US market will have to be content with these models as the diesels will not be carried over and there’s no word when Maserati will start working on a more classy V8 version. As standard features all US-Spec Levantes will receive and air suspension and Maserati’s new Skyhook adaptive damper system – with four selectable drive modes: Normal, I.C.E., sport, and off-road. Of course there are plenty of other amenities, including a HomeLink garage door opener and Italian fashionista red leather seats.
