Maserati will develop a new supercar which will be named the Grand Sport and will hit the market in 2015, going directly against the Porsche 911 Turbo.
Even if there is no official word from the company on this new supercar just yet, the Maserati CEO, Harald Wester, recently said that the automaker is considering a mid-engined coupe which is expected to hit the market in 2015. According to the guys at alvolante.it, the new model, which could be called the Grand Sport, will go against the Porsche 911 Turbo and will be based on the Alfa Romeo 4C. If the new model will be launched, its price tag will be set at less than 150,000 euros and Maserati will produce 1,500-2,000 units annually.
As a small reminder, the Alfa Romeo 4C Concept was officially presented to the public back in 2011 at the Geneva Motor Show and the model is a two-seat, rear-wheel drive sport coupe, 4 meters long and with a wheelbase of just 2.4 meters. The Alfa Romeo 4C is coming with a mid-rear mounted 1.8 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which is developing a total output of 197 BHP, the same configuration as the Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde. The unit is mated to the automatic twin dry clutch transmission which made its debut on the MiTo. The 0 to 100 km/h acceleration takes under 5 seconds and the model can achieve a top speed of over 250 km/h (155 mph).
