Maserati Levante SUV starts its development image

Maserati has started working on the upcoming Levante SUV as the model in question is said to be introduced sometimes next year or even in 2016.

The development of the Maserati Levante has been rumored over these past few years but it seems that the company is now ready for the process as the first test mules have been already spotted on the road by vigilant spy photographers. The model in question will be based, of course, on the Kubang Concept and it will become a rival for vehicles such as the BMW X6, the Porsche Cayenne or the upcoming Mercedes-Benz MLC, but it will probably stand in a different price zone.

The Maserati Levante is rumored to use the same platform as the Ghibli and to come with a design which will take it closer to the cheapest model in the company’s lineup and also to the new Quattroporte generation or even to the future Alfieri production. The SUV will come with the Q4 all-wheel drive system from the two production models mentioned above and it should be powered by a 3.0L V6 with 410 HP, by a 3.8L V8 with 530 HP or by a 3.0L V6 turbo diesel, with 271 HP. All engines will be connected to the 8-speed automatic transmission.
