The Italian based automaker Maserati is planning to produce a compact crossover which should go on sale over the following years against some popular German rivals.
The attempt to produce a compact crossover has started last year when the concept version of the Kubang has been officially presented to the public during the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show but it seems that the automaker has even bigger plans for its future lineup which will also include a compact crossover. Maserati is rumored to produce a new crossover in the following years which will be similar in size to the new Audi Q5 or to the Porsche Macan and this will rival the two models in the same segment.
The upcoming Maserati crossover might use the Levante name but there is no official word on this subject from the automaker just yet. Rumors are saying that the crossover will ride on the long wheelbase Compact U.S. Wide platform, made by Fiat, and the model will be a more luxurious and taller relative of the Dodge Dart. Additional details on the new Maserati crossover are limited for the moment and will be announced close to the model’s debut.
