Maserati to rival Audi Q5 and Porsche Macan with new crossover

The Italian based automaker Maserati is planning to develop a crossover which will go on sale over the following years.

Maserati had an attempt to produce a crossover last year, when the concept version of the Kubang has been officially presented to the public during the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, but it seems that the Italian based automaker hadn’t completely dropped the idea. Rumors are saying that the car manufacturer will produce a new crossover which will be similar in size to the Audi Q5 and the upcoming Porsche Macan and this will be a direct rival to the two models and to other vehicles in the segment too.

The small SUV is expected to ride on the long-wheelbase Compact U.S. Wide platform, made by Fiat, and the model will be a more luxurious and taller relative of the Dodge Dart. The Maserati crossover, which might be named as the Levante, is expected to make its way onto the market in several years. Additional details on the model are limited for the moment but initial rumors were saying that the carmaker is planning to sell about 20,000 units of its crossover annually.
