According to Fiat Group CEO Sergio Marchionne, luxury automaker Maserati could build a 4×4 to rival the Porsche Cayenne.
Sergio Marchionne noted that the Grand Cherokee “architecture has legs. It’s important for us to tap all of the hard work that has gone on inside Chrysler on the new Grand Cherokee.
“It has a level of solidity and resilience that we have underestimated.”
“One of the things we are now looking at in some detail is utilising this architecture and extending its application for future products both within Chrysler and outside Chrysler.”
Moreover, Harald Wester – Fiat R&D boss revealed recently that Alfa will use the Grand Cherokee platform as the basis for an upmarket SUV to rival the BMW X5.
Power for the next Maserati SUV may come from Ferrari and Maserati’s 4.2-litre and 4.7-litre V8 engines.
