Mazda2 / Demio officially unveiled image

Mazda has officially pulled the wraps off the brand new Mazda2 / Demio, following some leaked images and some spy shots which have ended up onto the web a few times over the last months.

The brand new Mazda2 / Demio has been already previewed by the concept car called the Hazumi back in March, during the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, but the final production version has been finally unveiled and what strikes at first is the Kodo design language which has been already added to models such as the new Mazda3, Mazda6 or the CX-5, amongst others.

“Evolving and enhancing the technology and ergonomics cultivated in these vehicles, the newest Mazda is expected to raise the bar in the crucial B segment, Europe’s single largest in terms of market share”, said the carmaker in its official press release.

Besides the completely new exterior design, the 2015 Mazda2 / Demio has also received an updated interior where the cabin has received the simple and clean layout, borrowed once again from its larger brothers, the Mazda3 and the Mazda6. As far as its dimensions stand, the model in question is now 4,070 mm long, 1,730 mm wide and 1,450 mm tall, riding on 2,585 mm long wheelbase.

The engine lineup of the model hasn’t been detailed for the moment but we do know that it will be introduced with the 1.5 liter SKYACTIV-D diesel engine, which is rated at 105 HP (77 kW) at 4,000 rpm, and with a peak torque of 250 Nm (184 lb-ft), available between 1,500 rpm and 2,500 rpm. The 1.5 liter SKYACTIV-G might be offered in different versions too, depending on the market selected. Both units will be connected to manual or automatic transmissions.

The 2015 Mazda2 / Demio will become available for order at first on its local auto market, Japan, and the European version of the model is said to be introduced most likely in October, during the 2014 Paris Motor Show, with the model being introduced close to the end of the year. More details on the brand new Mazda2 are limited for the moment and will be announced shortly.
