The newest addition to the McLaren Sports Series is the 540C and this has been officially unveiled over the web ahead of its debut which will be taking place at the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show.
After introducing the 570S earlier this year, McLaren has now pulled the wraps off the less powerful and cheaper version which is called the 540C. The model in question has received a subtly revised aerodynamic package and it is riding on 19- / 20-inch alloy wheels, with a stealth finish and a unique design. The sports car has retuned dampers which should be suited for day-to-day driving, aluminum body panels, a carbon fiber monocoque and a total weight of 1,311 kg, which will be making it up to 150 kg lighter than its closest rival, as the company is stating.
The interior design of the brand new McLaren 540C has premium leather upholstery for the seats, door panels and dashboard, GPS navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity and a 7-inch infotainment system. Power to the vehicle is being provided by the familiar 3.8 liter V8 engine, which is capable of producing a total output of 540 HP (397 kW) and it has a peak torque of 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to a 7-speed transmission which is allowing it to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.5 seconds and 200 km/h (124 mph) in 10.5 seconds. Top speed stands at 320 km/h (199 mph). The average full consumption stands at 25.5 mpg and the CO2 emissions are 258 g/km.
