A cheaper version of the recently unveiled McLaren 570S, the so-called 540C, will be introduced later on this month, during the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show.
Rumors on McLaren getting ready to introduce the cheaper version of the 570S have been around for quite some time now and it seems that the British brand is finally ready to make it happen. According to a recent report, published by CarMagazine, the model in question should be officially presented to the public in a couple of weeks, during the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show, in a premiere. The sports car is believed to carry a price of 126,000 GBP, which is lower than the 570S’ 143,250 GBP.
The new McLaren 540C is believed to get a less aggressive body kit, less standard equipment and, most importantly, less power than what the current 570S has to offer, to a total of approximately 540 HP. The already available sports car is coming with 570 HP (419 kW) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque, from the same 3.8 liter twin turbo V8 engine which used to be found on the long gone MP4-12C / 12C Spider and which can also be seen on the 650S and on the range topping P1. In the entry-level model, it takes 3.2 seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) and top speed stands at 328 km/h (204 mph). The 540C will be the smallest and cheapest sports car McLaren has ever produced.
