The newly unveiled McLaren 540C will remain the cheapest and least powerful model to be produced under the close watch of the British based automaker.
In case you are wondering whether McLaren is becoming an even more affordable brand in the near future, the answer to this would be “no”, because the car manufacturer has absolutely no plans to offer a vehicle below the current 540C. The company will remain an independent marque and it won’t be moving in the segment to offer cars priced at less than 100, 000 USD because owning a McLaren is also about exclusivity and it just wouldn’t be right seeing a lot of sports cars with the McLaren badge on the road, rivaling models such as the Porsche Boxster.
The McLaren 540C is the less powerful version of the new 570S and also the second addition to the new Sports Series. The vehicle has been officially unveiled just a month ago and it is coming with 19- / 20-inch alloy wheels, with a subtly revised aerodynamic package, with aluminum body panels, a carbon fiber monocoque and retuned dampers for day-to-day driving. The interior design of the sports car is bringing the 7-inch infotainment system, Bluetooth, GPS navigation, premium leather upholstery and others. The same 3.8L twin turbo V8 engine can be found under its hood but this is now rated at 533 HP (397 kW) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque, connected to the 7-speed transmission. From 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph), it needs 3.5s and top speed is 320 km/h.
