The British supercar maker is continuing its aggressive expansion of series models, aiming to deliver a true lineup that would cover all segments of the high-end automotive sub sector.
The automaker recently released the latest teaser picture for its upcoming 570S Coupe that is scheduled to make its official worldwide debut during next week’s New York auto show. Besides the technical quirks of the teaser, which shows the rear C pillar designed in a so-called “flying buttress” model – which McLaren says improves overall aerodynamics and also raise the car’s downforce – we already know the model will act as an alternative to the high-end Porsche 911 and Audi R8 variants. This is also only the first “affordable” level supercars from the company, a model that will feature under the hood a V8 engine and widely expected to become the company’s top-selling model. It’s the first introduction in the McLaren Sports Series and has been named after the total power output of 570 PS (562 hp) – a naming convention that was started with the 650S model.
The new 570S coupe is scheduled for a worldwide debut later next week on April 1, during the days of the New York auto show and should reach dealerships later on this year. McLaren chief executive officer Mike Flewitt commented during last month’s auto show in Geneva the 570S is technically based – featuring the same carbon fiber chassis and V8 engine – on the 650S, but the two will be set apart in styling. Further expansions of the new 570S model line will include a cabrio version and reports also put as certain a GT variant.
