Oh, the joy and wonder of owning a one-of-a-kind McLaren – and especially a unique McLaren 720S coupe that’s just freshly backed out of the Woking oven…

That’s of course the kind of attention money can buy, along with a visit at McLaren Special Operations (MSO) who was tasked to deliver this exclusive take on the new arrival at the behest of a wealthy client. The unique coupe sports an elegant black paint with a satin finish, and has a spec of color in the form of the gold-colored alloy wheels. It also comes with a 4-carat gold engine heatshield, but it’s actually the rear wing that’s considered the piece de resistance here – that’s because it has been instilled with a quote from company founder Bruce McLaren, and it required another 30 hours of work for the finish.

The quote commissioned by the owner has been snatched from Bruce McLaren’s “From the Cockpit” autobiography from 1964: “To do something well is so worthwhile that to die trying to do it better cannot be foolhardy. It would be a waste of life to do nothing with one’s ability, for I feel that life is measured in achievement, not in years alone.” No less than 90 hours of work were needed for all other modifications, which include gold inserts for the cockpit. The rest of the upgrades have carbon fiber written all over of them – from front splitter to the aero bridge and steering wheel.
