The ultra-exclusive P1 GTR Driver Program has been kicked off by McLaren, taking place at Circuit de Catalunya, in Spain.
If you happen to be the proud owner of a McLaren P1 GTR, chances are you’ve been attending the P1 GTR Driver Program, in Spain recently, but if you weren’t able to arrive, don’t worry, because owners who couldn’t come to the Circuit de Catalunya will have be covered, as the rest of the event will take place at the Sepang International Circuit, in Malaysia, at Circuit of the Americas, in North America, at Silverstone, in UK, at Autodromo Mazionale Monza in Italy, at Red Bull Ring in Austria, at Spa Francorchamps in Belgium, in Bahrain International Circuit (Bahrain) and at the Yas Marina (Abu Dhabi).
“No two drivers are the same, and this program is bespoke to each skill set, with our team of professional driver coaches, engineers and technicians working closely with the drivers, as they would in a top flight motorsport team. This ensures the program is adjusted accordingly to allow for the best to be seen of each driver and each car”, said Paul Mackenzie, the McLaren Special Operations executive director.
The McLaren P1 GTR is the track-only version of the P1 hypercar. It has been introduced at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show and it’s taking aim at the Ferrari FXX K. The impressive ride has been based, obviously, on the P1, and it is 50 mm lower and 80 mm wider, with a 10 percent improved downforce. Under its hood we can find the updated 3.8l twin turbo V8 engine, producing 800 HP, backed up by the 200 HP electric motor. The total output stands at 1,000 HP.
