The British based automaker McLaren is planning a minor power boost for the MP4-12C supercar, which will get 625 horsepower from this autumn.
Even if McLaren is currently working on a successor of the iconic F1 supercar, the current MP4-12C, a direct competitor to the Ferrari 458 Italia, is getting ready for a minor power boost, which probably has the role to close the gap between the Coupe and the Convertible, once the drop top will hit the market. The McLaren MP4-12C is expected to get an extra horsepower and a new exhaust system, with the power boost coming from a modified ECU. McLaren says that this won’t affect the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of the supercar.
As a quick reminder, the current McLaren MP4-12C is powered by a 3.8 liter twin-turbo V8 engine, which is developing a total output of 592 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and it has a peak torque of 443 lb-ft, available between 3,000 and 7,000 rpm. The supercar can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.3 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 205 mph. the McLaren MP4-12C has a starting price of 231,400 USD. More details on the more powerful version will be announced close to its launch.
