New details have emerged on the upcoming McLaren P13, the British based automaker’s sub-MP4-12C sports car, a future entry-level model which will rival the Porsche 911.
According to a recent report, the McLaren P13 will be officially presented to the public next year, during the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The model in question should get a similar design to the one of the current MP4-12C and to its more expensive brother, the P1. This won’t be the only thing shared with the two supercars because the chassis will be the same one, with its carbon fiber composite materials, which should help it be smaller and lighter than the MP4-12C’s 1,400 kg.
The McLaren P13 is believed to be powered by the same 3.8 liter twin turbo V8 engine, which is also found on the MP4-12C and P1. The unit in question will not be producing as much horsepower as the one in the more expensive rides and it should develop between 450 HP (335 kW) and 500 HP (373 kW). The unit should be mated to a seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission, which should allow the P13 to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in less than 4 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 185 mph (298 km/h).
