A new entry-level sports car, to slot below the upcoming 570S, previously known as the Sport Series, will be developed by the carmaker and this should be named the 540C.
McLaren is getting ready to expand its vehicle lineup and after the introduction of the 650S, the MP4-12C replacement, of the 625C, and the 675 LT, a new entry-level sports car is getting ready to hit the market, the 570S, and this will happen during the 2015 New York Auto Show, next week. But things won’t stop here for McLaren as the British brand is also planning the introduction of an even cheaper sports car, the so-called 540C.
The model in question is believed to be offering 540 HP, 20 HP more than its direct rival, the Porsche 911 Turbo, while the 570S will be producing 10 HP more than the Porsche 911 Turbo S. Both vehicles will be using the same monocoque from their larger brother, the 650S, but they will be smaller, less powerful and cheaper. The same 3.8 liter twin turbo V8 engine will be used under their hoods and they will be coming with rear-wheel drive and a mid-mounted layout. Visual inspiration in their development will be made using both the 650S and the P1. The new McLaren 570S should hit the market over the next few months, being followed by the Spider version, by the end of 2015. The 540C is believed to be introduced this autumn. More details on the topic are limited at this time.
