The second body style of the new McLaren 675LT, the Spider, is believed to roll off sometimes in 2016.
McLaren has some big plans for its future models and after introducing the first two vehicle in the new Sports Series, the 540C and the 570S, time has come for the carmaker to focus on the development of other body styles of its existing supercars. According to a recent report, published by the guys from autogespot, 2016 will see the debut of a second body style of the new 675LT. We’re talking about the 675LT Spider and it seems that several dealerships are already speaking with possible customers of such a vehicle in order to check the demand for it.
Our source is stating that McLaren limited itself to the current 675LT but things have changed along the way as there is apparently a market for the 675LT Spider. This will be getting the same carbon fiber monocoque as its solid roof brother and chopping the roof down will only add a few kilograms to the total weight, which should affect the handling. Under its hood, the same 3.8 liter twin turbo V8 engine will be found which will be good for 675 HP and 700 Nm of torque, just like in the current 675LT. The coupe needs 2.9 seconds to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) but the roadster might add 0.1s or 0.2s to that time. Top speed of the coupe stands at 330 km/h (205 mph).
